주요관심연구
본 연구실의 가장 주된 연구 주제는 병원성 세균의 항생제 내성이다. 20세기 중반 이후 ‘기적의 약’이라 불리며 수많은 생명을 살려낸 항생제는 항생제 내성으로 말미암아 그 효과를 잃어가고 있다. 이러한 항생제 내성은 우리나라 뿐만 아니라 전세계적인 문제로 떠오르고 있다. 본 연구실은 이와 관련한 항생제 내성의 메카니즘과 항생제 내성균의 출현 및 확산에 관한 연구를 수행하고 있다.
(1) 병원성 세균의 항생제 내성 연구
본 연구실은 주요 병원성 세균 (Streptococcus pneumoniae, Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Escherichia coli 등)의 주요 병원성 세균의 항생제 내성을 연구한다. 이를 위하여 내성률을 측정하고 내성 균주에서의 내성 메카니즘을 밝히고 있다.
(2) 병원성 세균의 출현 및 확산, 진화에 대한 연구
본 연구실은 PFGE, MLST 등의 분자생물학적 방법 및 Genome 수준의 연구 방법을 이용하여 병원성 세균의 개체군 구조 및 진화를 연구한다. 이러한 연구를 통하여 고병원성 또는 항생제 내성을 갖는 세균의 clone을 찾아내고 이의 전파에 대해서 밝혀내고 분자적 진화에 대해 연구하고 있다.
