Invitation to SKKU Intl Symposium on Medical Education

It is my pleasure to cordially invite you to the Sungkyunkwan University-School of Medicine (SKKU-SOM) Symposium on Medical Education which celebrates the 20th anniversary of medical education at the SKKU-SOM. We are delighted to host this special occasion, where medical scientists and clinicians can get together to share ideas on how we can improve the teaching in Medicine through the advancement of technology and methodology. The key topics of the symposium – Flipped Learning and Augmented/Virtual Reality – are some of the rising developments with the  paradigm shift in Medical Education, and I hope that discussion made today during the symposium will provide the participants with an in-depth understanding on both topics from the renowned speakers which we have invited from both in and out of Korea.

We were fortunate to invite some of the leading pioneers in innovative Medical Education from the US, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Singapore. The Medical Schools in these countries have been paving the roads for Medical Education long before we have; and as a result, they have accumulated tremendous experience in innovative Medical Education. In addition, we have also invited faculty members from Korean medical schools, who are acting as early-adapters to new technology and methodology. We all hope to gain insight from their experience during the symposium.        
 
As faculty members of the School of Medicine, we all share responsibilities to educate competent medical students for the well-being of our society. The responsibility as teachers seems far heavier than that of researchers. I sincerely wish that we can refresh our status as “teachers” through this symposium, and I hope that it could be an opportunity to inspire you with new ideas for better teaching and learning.
