This winter, 20 students from SKKU-SOM participated in the Winter Institute Program at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. It was our first time to send a group of students on a global outbound program. The 20 students were selected through evaluation on their English and GPA. The financial support for the program was provided with the program-based scholarship from the university, which encourages students to develp themselves through extra-curricular programs which can enrich their comeptency in various ways.

The students were divided into 2 groups of 10 students. The first group departed from Incheon on the first day of January. They participated in the H.E.L.P (Health Emergency in Large Population) program, which is a specially designed program for global health professionals in collaboration with WHO. The second group arrived at Baltimore 4 days later, and started their courses at Johns Hopkins School of Public Health on January 7. The second group took 3 courses during the 2-week stay at the JHSPH winter institute.

The students were able to experience a different aspect of medical profession during the program. They met with various students from different backgrounds, and learned wider scope of career after graduating from medical school. The last week of the program provided students with the opportunity to learn more about Johns Hopkins Medical School. They were taken on a tour of Johns Hopkins Hospital and the Homewood Campus. The introduction to the history of Johns Hopkins University was also provided for the students. The students were able to experience the world-renowned university campus environment and take courses with students with diverse backgrounds.  SKKU-SOM is excited to provide students with wider experience during their campus life, and look forward to shairng this experience with more of our students at SKKU-SOM in the future.
