On the anniversary of the founding of the SKKU-SOM tennis club, the 1st annual tennis tournament was held. It was coordinated in conjunction with one of the school tennis clubs. And for this momentous occasion, professors and faculty members of the SOM were invited to join the celebration and participate in the event.
The official event kicked off at 1PM on the tennis courts of the Natural Sciences campus. Prof. Ki-young Lee, who is the advisor of the club, initiated the event by introducing the participating professors and praising the student board members. Before the participants got down to business, all the participants took a group photo. So, not only could we remember all the participants, but we could all look our best before breaking a sweat.
The student body was divided into two groups: the first-division and the second-division. Since the club had only been enacted just a year ago, the player's tennis capacity was not on level ground. Therefore, the tournament was designed to allow the students of equal ability to compete against one another. Beginners (like myself) could participate in the tournament without the fear of the other opponents. All the games were doubles matches, and the teams consisted of mixed grades. Therefore, during the tournament, we could share quality time with our colleagues and mingle with other students from the department.
Watching the matches, it was easy to distinguish the players from the first and second-divisions. Players of the second-division were having a difficult time serving the ball properly in two services. Meanwhile, the first-division tournament was heated. I was most impressed by the intensity of the participating professors. They didn't take it easy. Their power and accuracy made the rallies go from the minors to an all out war. I've never worked up such a sweat in my whole life. Along the way, there were a couple injuries and casualties, but fortunately for us, we are medical students!
Following the final match and award ceremony, the guests and participants stuck around for a celebrative feast. Players Dong-gyu Kim & Sang-min Lee took all the glory in the first-division tournament. Suk-jin Yoon & myself were victorious in the second-division tournament. Of the mixed doubles matches of the professor & student union teams, Dong-gyu Kim & Prof. Tae-jin Kim (Obstetrics Department) won the first place title.
To wrap up, I personally want to say thanks to all of the club members and professors who came to the tournament on that day. The event was a major success for a to-be-annual tournament. Club president, Ja-geon Koo especially did a very great job as the leader of our club. Also, I would like to give thanks to all of the professors who joined the event: Ki-young Lee, Duk-hwan Kim, Won-ho Jung, Hong-jin Jeon, Tae-jung Kim, and Byeong-chang Jung. I hope that we can keep this tradition going for the future of the department. Game. Set. Match!
